2011 graduates launch their careers

Here’s what a few of this year’s graduates are doing … We’d like to hear and share news from other alumni, from all programs and years!  Send a note to Barbara.Trapido-Lurie@asu.edu telling about your activities since you graduated.

Corey Baker (B.S. Geography, August 2011) is working for ESRI, doing sales and consulting with ESRI’s San Antonio Regional Office as his base.  As Corey explains, the focus of the position is to use his geography and ArcGIS knowledge consult with local and state governments to help them find the best technology for each level of the organization.  He mentions that current initiative is having organizations leverage “cloud technology” to complement their already functional ArcGIS software.  This allows even non-conventional users of GIS the opportunity to create, analyze, and distribute self-service maps and applications with their own specific content-rich data.

Richard Brockmyer (MUEP, May 2011) is working as a Strategic Planner I with the Utah Transit Authority.  He recently completed a full time internship with Salt Lake County's Planning & Development Services Department.  As well as the MUEP, Richard earned the Transportation Systems Certificate.

Michael Catsos (B.S. Geography, May 2011) is working as a fulltime GIS intern for the Northeast States Emergency Consortium (NESEC), a nonprofit just outside of Boston.  In this position,he utilizes GIS-based models to project the impacts of natural hazard events on the region, and provides support to the organization’s emergency preparedness research efforts.

Chad Guzman (B.A. Geography and Political Science, December 2011) has just started a position as Government Affairs Representative for Arizona Public Service.  Last spring, Chad worked in the Arizona Attorney General’s Office as part of the ASU Legislative Internship program, and he learned about the opening at Arizona Public Service through his experiences there.

Adam Ricks (MAS-GIS, July 2011) is now a GIS Specialist with the Bureau of Reclamation’s Phoenix Area Office.  While working on his masters’ degree, Adam held a student position at the Bureau of Reclamation as a GIS Technician

Joe Tuccillo (B.A. Geography, May 2011)  has a position as a Research Aide working with the Phoenix Spatial History Project, an initiative of ASU’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change. The Phoenix Spatial History Project is a venture of the Change is Hard group, which is within the Late Lessons from Early History initiative.  The goal of the Phoenix Spatial History Project is to develop a spatial history of Phoenix using images, maps and GIS projects. Joe’s work involves creating geovisualizations and managing the project’s web site. Check out some of the geovisualizations that are already available on the project’s web site!
