Map showing analysis of sex offender residences A March 2011 news posting from Kingman, Arizona reports that a convicted sex offender broke into a home, kidnapped an 8-year-old girl, and molested her outside. Such an unfortunate event and others like it have spawned a flurry of sex offender laws at the federal, state and local levels in recent years designed to prevent this type of incident.

Professor Alan Murray and colleagues at ASU & Drexel are using spatial analysis to explore the impacts of these laws. Read more

In the last year, 35 students in geography and planning programs earned credit for their internships, and other students gained professional experience through capstone projects.

Among geography Ph.D. students, Christopher Galletti won a Fulbright Award, and Ran Wei won support for her research from both the Regional Science Association International and the ASU Graduate College.
