Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in GIS
Undergraduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science
This cross-disciplinary certificate is designed for degree-seeking undergraduate students from all majors who wish to pursue a GIS-related career.
The goal of the certificate is to give students exposure to the core principles of geographic information science, a basic mastery of geospatial technologies, and an introduction to applications of geographic information and technology in diverse realms.
The certificate program consists of 19 credit hours of coursework.
Graduate Certificate in Geographical Information Science
The graduate-level GIS certificate program is designed for students enrolled in a graduate program at ASU. It complements existing degree programs. The program provides students with the training and experience necessary to compete and work in the GIS arena in both public and private sectors.
The certificate program consists of a minimum of 16 graduate level credit hours, consisting of three required and two elective courses, plus a one-credit hour capstone seminar.
Masters of Advanced Study in Geographic Information Systems
The MAS-GIS program is a compact one-year nonthesis degree program fostering advanced study in management and the use of GIS technology in public and corporate environments. The degree meets important educational needs of working professionals and recent college graduates seeking to improve their career standing.
The program provides a comprehensive professional degree that balances work in the theoretical aspects of GIS, the technical side of the discipline and the applications domain. Students are exposed to cutting edge technology, management theory and practice, and several societal dimensions associated with the application of GIS technology. The courses are held in the evenings during the week, the curriculum is highly adaptable to the work environment, and a MAS-GIS degree is achievable in a one-year time period.
