H-Net, an online scholarly review resource in the Humanities and Social Sciences, recently reviewed Associate Professor Wei Li 's new book, Ethnoburb: The New Ethnic Community in Urban America.

Li's book introduces the concept of "ethnoburbs" -- suburban ethnic clusters of residential areas and business districts in large metropolitan areas. As described in the H-Net review, "Focusing specifically on Chinese ethnoburbs in Los Angeles County, Li draws widely on U.S. Census data to argue that the global economy, geopolitics, and changes in U.S. immigration policies spurred the development of ethnoburbs in which immigrants of diverse income and educational levels create communities with class stratification and both international and local businesses."

The review concludes:

As Li's well-written and thoroughly researched study demonstrates, American social, economic, political, and living patterns, and maintenance of the nation's diversity rather than forced assimilation, will do much to strengthen the United States in the increasingly globalized world.
