About the Ph.D. and M.A. in Geography

Thank you for your interest in a graduate degree program in geography at ASU. We offer a streamlined Ph.D. program for students with bachelors degrees. We strongly encourage prospective students with bachelors degrees to apply directly to the Ph.D. in geography. Funding favors Ph.D. applicants.

All graduate students benefit from a wide variety of course work and research opportunities in four broad interdisciplinary themes that span the expertise of the faculty within the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning:

The faculty currently includes two members of the National Academy of Sciences, a Gilbert White Chair, President's Professor and Regent's Professor, a National Science Foundation Young Investigator award winner, a past executive officer of the Association of American Geographers, two Guggenheim scholars, and members of national and international committees and panels such as the National Research Council Geographical Sciences Committee and Intergovernmental Panel on Climatic Change (IPCC).

The school is also the editorial home of the Journal of Urbanism, the International Regional Science Review and Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences.

The faculty exposes graduate students to a marked variety of research interests and methodologies.

Resources include state of the art geographic information science laboratories and computational facilities. See the associated information regarding faculty and courses for more detailed information regarding the depth and breadth of the school.

If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me (ohuallachain@asu.edu). Please include the ASU program you are applying to on the Subject Line of your e-mail message.

Sincerely,
