MAS-GIS program enrolls largest class since inception

September 1, 2009

The MAS-GIS program is now in its sixth year, and the new group of 33 students began the one-year experience on Monday, August 24th. This is the program's largest class (with 32 in 2008-2009), and it includes international students from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Kingdom and Ireland. This year's cohort also includes out-of-state students from Bard College (New York), Millikin University, Cal State - Chico, Valdosta State, Brigham Young, Carthage College, Bemidji State, Alaska - Fairbanks (Kurt might need some different clothes), Missouri State, Worcester State, Hawaii - Manoa, and Virginia Tech. Fifteen students are ASU grads, and we once again have students from NAU and the University of Arizona.

The students will complete the two academic semesters, attending four and five nights a week, and at the end of the eight-week summer session, they will hopefully all join the program's existing 102 MAS-GIS graduates.

At its inaugural meeting on August 24, the group met in the GIS lab for 90 minutes; then attended a reception at the University Club where they were joined by School Director Luc Anselin, instructors in the MAS-GIS program, and several dozen MAS-GIS alumni.
