Report from Bob Balling: MAS-GIS at ESRI User's Conference 2009

The ESRI User's Conference is over, and once again, I need a vacation after three days at that circus!

Here are some highlights:

  1. Congratulations to Cory Whitaker (2004-2005) who managed to have eight maps featured in this year's ESRI Map Book (Vol. 34, pp. 104-105).
  2. While at the event, I managed to visit with Andrew Blasky, Matt Kenny, Chinmay Kurane, and Isaac Montague from this year's class. These fellows were hired to work with the ESRI staff, and I noticed that they were actually working (possibly more than they thought). I missed Constantinos Papantoniou by a few hours, but he was definitely seen at the event.
  3. Many students from previous years were around, and I know that I missed visiting with some of them. I had a pleasant lunch with Matt Bullock and Gady Pitaru, visited with Sabita Tripathi at the SWUG meeting, saw Theresa Wong racing through the exhibit hall, had a short visit with Justin Goering and Garrett Topham, and Mike Tschudi helped me find the most remote meeting room in the massive building.
  4. There are over 10,000 people at this event, so missing people is as easy as running into them. Melissa Geraghty, Jacqueline Pursell, Shawny Ekadis, and Ruth Jensen (and undoubtedly others) were rumored to be in the building.

Chris and I have talked about having an ASU event at the ESRI conference - that could happen in 2010. Hope to see you there!
