Master of Advanced Study in Geographic Education
What are the Admission Requirements?
The GRE or any other graduate admittance examination is not required.
Applicants apply as regular graduate students through the Graduate College. This involves paying the application fee and submitting the following documents:
- An official ASU graduate application
- All official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work
- A statement of the your goals
- Three letters of recommendation
The statement takes the form of answers to four questions about your relevant academic experience, professional experience, and overall goals in geographic education. This program is designed for all K-12 educators, and so the letters can come from any combination of current/former instructors, supervisors, or colleagues currently working at your school or district setting.
Prospective students seeking the MASGE degree must have (a) successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in a related area to education or geography with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale), OR (b) demonstrate a minimum of one year related professional experience and successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent). Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 can be accepted if they show substantial promise of success based on the candidate's statement and letters of recommendation.
Application materials for the coming academic year will be accepted and reviewed on a continual basis, but all students start the program each summer. Thus, you would be applying for the program for Summer admission.
Applicants to the MASGE program will be accepted year-round for admission to start each Summer.
Once you are admitted to the program, you will be able to access all course materials. Thus, if you have the time, you will be able to complete some of the course work during your academic year. However, no courses are offered during the Spring and Fall Semesters.
