"Codes Project" web site is launched

urban plan imagesThe Codes Project, directed by ASU School of Geographical Sciences Professor Emily Talen and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, is a compilation of codes that affect urban form.

The project has just launched its web site, a searchable archive that allows codes to be searched based on era, region, subject and other variables.

In conceiving the project's scope, Dr. Talen defines "code" broadly - from legal document to social custom. The new web site already includes codes ranging from 10th-century documents developed in Tunisia and Spain to modern plans, guides and codes from around the world.

The site also includes a bibliography of research on codes, and a "codes in real life" section that links code to outcome.

Dr. Talen conceives the site as a collaborative project -- a web site that anyone can contribute to. If you have a code, a research paper, or a comment, consider submitting it online at http://codesproject.asu.edu/php/submit.php.
