Ryan Frazier

Biography

Ryan Frazier's research focuses on the use of remotely sensed data and spatial analysis to generate information about the disturbance and recovery of forests. Dr. Frazier's most recent research focuses on a large region of the Canadian boreal forest and observes changes in forest recovery using Landsat time series. A changing climate will affect higher latitude areas first and thus could affect boreal forests through alterations to temperature and precipitation regimes. Furthermore, climatic changes could further alter established patterns of forest disturbance (wildfire, insect infestation, and harvest) and recovery (forest regrowth). Another recent research effort examined patterns of forest recovery over a large region in Boreal Canada and found observable differences in forest regrowth that are directly parallel to research found at smaller scales.

Dr Frazier's future research is currently examing how to use novel historic remotely sensed data sources to ask questions about large regions over time.
